Hawthorne's Townwide Garage Sale will be held on Saturday, May 31st (Rain Date Sunday, June 1st) from 9 am to 3 pm. TRANSIT NOTICE Hawthorne Station Outbound Stairway Closure Beginning on Wednesday, April 16, and continuing for approximately six weeks, NJ TRANSIT will close the stairway serving the outbound (to Suffern/Port Jervis) platform as a result of platform resurfacing. While the outbound staircase is out of service, customers may use pedestrian crossing from the inbound platform signal gate to access outbound platform During this time six parking spaces, located adjacent to the inbound platform, will be blocked off to accommodate the construction work. Plans for Hawthorne's Annual Memorial Day Parade are underway. Members of community service organizations, neighborhood groups, church and school groups, and businesses are invited to participate in the parade with floats, decorated vehicles, and marching or walking units. Borough youngsters are invited to decorate bikes, trikes and wagons in a patriotic theme. To register your participation in the May 26th parade, call Doug Tenis at 973-423-9702. The Municipal Council introduced the 2008 budget with a 5.9% municipal tax increase on April 2nd following a budget presentation by the Mayor. The public hearing on the budget is set for the Council Meeting of May 7th. The tax increase occurs despite cuts made by the Mayor and Council Finance Committee because of the reduction of state aid and increased payment to the state pension system. The Borough Administrator also gave a presentation on the 2008-2013 Capital Program. |
