The Borough's fire protection is provided by the five companies in the all-volunteer Hawthorne Fire Department. The members elect their own Chief and other officers. The Chief reports to the Mayor.
New Volunteer members are always welcome. Contact the Chief for more details.
The Bureau of Fire Prevention is responsible for enforcing the state of New Jersey's Uniform Fire Safety Act within the Borough. Whenever a dwelling unit has a change in tenants, the property owner is required to obtain a Certificate of Smoke Detector, Carbon Monoxide and Fire Extinguisher Compliance.
