With Labor Day fast approaching, I think back to my childhood when it meant summer fun was over and school would be starting.  What I remember most was the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. It ran from 8 pm Sunday night until 6 pm Monday, and sometimes it lasted until 7 pm. It started on Channel 5 and then eventually moved to Channel 9. Jerry used to get the greatest guests: Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin, Don Rickles, Johnny Carson, Joey Bishop, and Ed McMahon became his co-host. They had great bands and singers; it was truly an entertainment extravaganza. It was indeed a sad day when they forcibly retired Jerry. The Telethon and Labor Day lost some of its luster. This Labor Day take a moment to remember Jerry Lewis and the millions he raised for MDA
