The Hawthorne Police Department Leadership Camp is a one-week, 30-hour program run Monday through Friday at the Lincoln Middle School. The program is staffed by police officers who are experienced in youth programs. Assisting us with the Leadership Camp are the New Jersey Army National Guard and the Lincoln Middle School. The dates for 2010 will be August 16th until August 20th. Applications will are available on this website.
The camp is for students entering middle school in September. Officers, NJANG members and LMS teachers instruct students working together as a team, leadership skills, and becoming familiar with the middle school environment We also focus on respect for authority, our armed forces and patriotism.
Each year over 100 students attend the camp. The 2010 enrollment fee is $75.00. No child is turned away due to a family's inability to pay. About a dozen LMS students are used as mentors at the camp. Each year teachers at LMS report a marked improvement in the attitude of incoming students.
