Business Solid Waste and Recycling

There is no limit to the amount of recycling a business can put to the curb.  For more information on rules and schedule for municipal curbside collection, see above.

If a business has a dumpster, it must be screened from public view.

New Jersey State Law forbids any business from mixing recycling with garbage.  In Hawthorne, if a business does not recycle, a summons will be written with the business owner being fined.

Businesses can use the recycling center for all of their recycling needs.

In the first quarter of every year, businesses receive a questionnaire that must be returned to the Hawthorne Office of Recycling regarding their recycling program.  This report is required by state law.

Backyard Composting

We encourage residents and businesses to compost.  To learn more, visit the Environmental Commission's Upcoming Events and Environmental Resources.
