The Borough of Hawthorne now accepts online payments for property taxes and water bills using credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express) or direct bank debit (from a checking or savings account). Payments are made through the website of our vendor, MuniciPay.

All payments will include an additional charge for a convenience fee equal to:

  • For Credit Cards, 2.95% of the amount being paid for using this service. The minimum fee for credit card payments is $3.
  • For Direct Bank Debit (from a checking or savings account), a flat fee of $1.95.

All fees will be added to your payment.

Payment in Person

Tax and Water Bill payments may also be made in the Tax Office.

Terms & Conditions

Municipay charges a convenience fee to use this service to make credit card and ACH direct withdrawal payments. The convenience fee will be included in your total payment.

Completion of a payment transaction is contingent upon both the authorization of payment by your credit card company and acceptance of your payment by the governmental agency you are paying. In the event that your payment is unable to be processed or authorized by your card company or if the Borough of Hawthorne fails to accept your payment, your payment liability shall remain outstanding and unpaid and you will be subject to all applicable penalties and interest charges assessed by the Borough of Hawthorne all of which obligations remain your sole responsibility.

Users who are making a credit card payment or a direct debit of their banking account are reminded to complete the e-filing process. You must complete the e-filing process for your taxes or water charges to satisfy your obligation.

Only currently due taxes and water charges may be paid online. Credit card and direct bank debit payments for delinquent taxes and water charges will only be accepted at the Borough Tax Office so that interest on late payments can be calculated and added to your payment. Any attempt to pay delinquent taxes or water charges with a credit card or direct bank debit online will result in the transaction being reversed. You will still be responsible for the convenience fee and your credit card or bank account will be charged for that amount even though the transaction has been reversed. Interest on taxes and water charges will continue to accrue.
