Permit to Purchase / Firearms ID

With exception of Permits to Carry, all applicants must apply for Firearms ID Cards and Permit to Purchase a Handgun online only through the New Jersey State Police website's Application for Firearms Purchaser Identification Card and/or Handgun Purchase Permit.

Important Information for Applying

• Applicants must enter their “official name”.  Applicants cannot utilize simplified versions of their name (Joe vs. Joseph)
• Applicants must enter accurate phone numbers and emails for themselves and their references. 
• After all required information is entered, a review page appears where the applicant can make edits into the application prior to the final submission.  Once submitted the application is unable to be altered.  When complete, the applicant must print out the application form, fingerprint form and confirmation page. 
• Payment shall be in the form of a Check or Money Order issued to “Borough of Hawthorne”.  No cash, please. 
  • Please note: All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
