Volunteer Opportunities
Thinking about doing some volunteer work, but don't know where to look? Whether you're looking to gain experience or learn new skills, help others in the community, meet new people, fulfill community service hours or simply have some fun, there is a volunteer position that's right for you.
Every local government depends upon the support and volunteer services of residents and other persons who have a personal interest in their town. The Borough of Hawthorne is fortunate to have a large pool of civic minded volunteers who tirelessly give thousands of hours of time and services to various boards, commissions, and advisory committees.
If you are interested in volunteering, please initiate the process by completing a volunteer form.
Committees / Commissions / Boards
A number of committees, commissions and boards have been established to serve the needs of borough residents. All members serve without pay. Appointments to committee or board vacancies are usually made at a Council Meeting.
Shade Tree & Environmental Commissions
Offer opportunities for people to actively participate in programs aimed at improving the quality of our natural areas and to encourage environmental stewardship among other residents.
Board of Recreation
The Borough's recreation program depends upon volunteers for support through booster clubs and coaching. Certification is required for all coaches. Learn more by visiting the Board of Recreation page.
Emergency Services
Qualified volunteers are always needed by the Ambulance Corps, Fire Department, and Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT). Training will be provided.
Municipal Alliance Committee
The Municipal Alliance Committee is comprised of volunteers whose efforts are to provide resources, guidance and education of the dangers of under-age drinking, and substance use disorders.
Domestic Violence Response Team
The Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) is made up of community volunteers that assist victims of domestic violence during the initial phases of the crisis. The volunteers are trained in a mandatory course.
